Can I install a Fumoto valve if my oil pan threads are stripped?
Can I install a Fumoto valve if my oil pan threads are stripped?
Damaged oil pan threads are a hassle, and buying a new oil pan is expensive. While oversized plugs can be used as a temporary solution for stripped threads, you will eventually need a permanent fix.
In the event of stripped threads, some customers choose to re-tap their oil pan to the next size up. For example, if your original threads were 14mm x 1.5, you could re-tap them to 16mm x 1.5. By installing a 108 series (our 16mm series) Fumoto valve at that point, you can avoid stripping the threads again in the future.
Note: We recommend consulting a professional for specific advice regarding your vehicle's condition.
Please keep in mind that if the oil drain port is recessed, you might also need an extension adapter to install the valve. For more information click here: Do I need to use an adapter with my Fumoto valve?
We do not sell oversized drain valves.
